So many people dread their retirement. For some reason they become institutionalized in their jobs. They start to see their jobs as what they are. And when the time comes to retire, they think their lives have stopped. While in reality it might only have started.

Let’s say you retire at the age of 60. That means you can realistically look forward to another 15 year of healthy, abundant life. Why not spend a large part of that time traveling? By that age you will most likely be in the financial position to be able to do it. If you are lucky enough to have a partner that also enjoys traveling, you are set for a mini-lifetime of fun and adventure.

If you plant to travel long term, Europe or America is the ideal spot. Buy yourself a mobile home and make sure it comes fitted with all the comforts and luxuries that you are used to. Make sure the man of the house has a good watch to keep track of time during the days on the road. A good men’s sport watch is ideal.

If you are fitness conscious (and to stay healthy this is a good idea!) you should think of taking along sports equipment. Should you be going to Europe skiing is a great way to have fun while getting some exercise. Buy decent alpine skiing equipment before you leave - it might be quite expensive to buy it once you get to your destination.

It might be hard to believe, but traveling is not exciting every moment of every day. You might end up in a beautiful, but rather boring national park where you absolutely have to keep yourself busy. Make sure therefore that you bring along a few things to help you pass the time. A few board games and a laptop are essential equipment. Something else to consider is a musical instrument. If you know how to play it, a guitar can be a lot of fun around a campfire. An alvarez acoustic guitar is a solid choice in this regard.

Something you should never forget is a top quality first aid kit. There will often come a time during your travels that someone gets hurt. Perhaps not seriously, but a simple cut not attended to can turn into something quite serious. You might be far from medical help at the time, so make sure you are prepared for these small mishaps.

The single most important item in your travel toolkit will be your attitude. If you are going to moan and grown every time someone does something that does not fit in with your preconceived ideas of how things should be done, you will make yourself and those around you very unhappy. Learn to let go and live in the moment. Let your horizons widen. You might soon find that you never want to go home and wait for God in the lounge… Rather meet him somewhere in the Himalayas!
