The rural nature of the area lends itself to a range of outdoor activities, including hiking, bike rides and horse riding along the surrounding miles of forest. There are also many different water activities nearby on lakes created by the Barragem da Aguiera dam for example fishing, [sailing,boating activities,] and swimming. This reservoir is fed by the Rio Mondego and Rio Alva. As well as swimming, sunbathing, taking out a dingy, or enjoying a BBQ, there is the Montebelo Aguiera lake resort and marina plus plenty of other restaurants and bars in the area.

These mountains can be accessed in less than 25 min’s and you may like to visit the Montebelo golf resort. Located in between the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo mountain ranges, this fantasticgolf course offers some of the most sensational surroundings in Central Portugal.

The small town, Sao Pedro de Alva is merely four kilometres away from the village of Lagares. There you can access secondary school, health care, banks, a post office and shops with many choices of refreshment in local bars and cafe’s’. The larger towns of Mortagua, Penacova and Santa Comba Dao a 15 minute drive away will satisfy any metropolitan needs and have some well stocked larger Supermarkets to choose from. The City of Coimbra is only half an hours drive away. Coimbra itself is well worth a visit. Of special interest is its University, Universidade de Coimbra, which is one of the oldest Universities there is. This establishment was founded in 1290. Also the ancient buildings of this wonderful city will charm and stay with you a long time too. Only 10 minutes on, is Conimbriga, where you could pay a visit to the astonishing Roman ruins which are open to visitors.

The famous Serra da Estrella National Park is only an hours drive from Lagares and through part of the year there are great skiing facilities open to the public. a 45 min to 1 hour drive will take you to the coastal areas of Figueira da Foz and Praia da Tocha.

Casa do Poço Velho is a beautiful spacious 4 bedroom house in Portugal with about half an acre of south facing, fertile land close to the beautiful university city of Coimbra. It is located in a lovely area at the end of the small and friendly village of Lagares and is the last house on a small track leading into the forest with fantastic views over the surrounding forests to the distant Serra da Lousa mountains.
