What Does A DUI Attorney Do?
Personally, I don’t think anyone who has been caught drunk driving should ever be let off the hook so I’ve always been critical of any DUI Attorney. I mean why defend someone who was drunk driving? Why should anyone defend a DUI Drunk? Especially, if they have been the cause of death of someone’s loved ones. Sometimes I get to thinking that the Police uphold the law and the DUI Attorney turns around in court and pardons the guilty, ducking the law. Because a DUI Attorney is there to try to excuse the guilt of a drunk driving case right?
Actually, no. A DUI Attorney is there to uphold the law just as much as the Police Department or Los Angeles Sheriff upholds the law. A Law Firm, Court, Criminal Defense, and DUI Attorney all work together to uphold the law and provide constitutional rights.
With our United States law system everyone has the right to an attorney, including a DUI Attorney. So, a DUI Attorney is protecting Constitutional rights. Under the constitution everyone in the US has:
-Right to trial by jury of peers
-Right to be assumed innocent until proved guilty
-Right to a speedy, public trial
-Right to remain silent
-Right to freedom from unreasonable seizures or searches
-Right to legal counsel
And so, a DUI Attorney is just doing his/her duty in protecting constitutional rights.
I can also understand that as tragic as the effects of drunk driving can be, a human being who made the mistake of drunk driving needs the chance to move on with their life to improve themselves and do better next time. A DUI Attorney can help with that. Even if a DUI Drunk is obviously guilty, and the case has a hopeless defense, a DUI Attorney can make it so that the outcome of the Case can help a DUI Drunk change for the better. Rather than doing jail time, maybe a DUI Attorney can revoke a license and by law require community service or other law requirements that would help improve a DUI Drunk.
The job of a DUI Attorney is also to defend the innocent. Although the police usually do a good job at enforcing the law and DUI cases can be pretty obvious, there is always a small possibility of error and a DUI Attorney can research DUI cases to find the facts and provide DUI Defense.
If you have a California DUI look for DUI Attorney Los Angeles or DUI Lawyer Los Angeles to get the DUI Defense you’re looking for. Los Angeles County Sheriff or Police Department can also give you information about DUI Cases and provide contact to a law firm for a DUI Attorney. Southern California, especially Orange County has a law firm with DUI Attorney and DUI Lawyer options available for Los Angeles County and many other areas.
If the accused were always presumed guilty, then there wouldn’t be a way for the law to protect the innocent from a case where the accusations were wrong. So, I guess a DUI Attorney does play an important role in upholding the law.
